Standard monthly membership for an individual runs from £47 at Hull (Nuffield Health) on Off Peak to £459 at Chelsea (Harbour Club) on Club Platinum. The typical club charges £92 a month for its cheapest adult plan. Every club sets its own rates, so the club page is the figure that matters.
Is there a joining fee at David Lloyd, Nuffield Health, Third Space, Virgin Active and Village Gym?
Usually yes. Joining fees on standard plans currently range from £19 to £1,555; the most common fee is £160. Clubs run joining-fee offers regularly, and those appear on the plan itself on each club page.
Which is the cheapest club in the UK?
Hull (Nuffield Health) from £47 a month on Off Peak; Hull (Village Gym) from £47.50 a month on Off Peak; East Kilbride (Nuffield Health) from £48 a month on Off Peak. These are standard individual rates on the club's cheapest adult plan.

A short contract costs more per month than the longest one. Club Platinum at David Lloyd typically runs £204 a month against £174 on the longest commitment; Adult at Virgin Active typically runs £162 a month against £120 on the longest commitment; Anytime at Nuffield Health typically runs £101 a month against £82 on the longest commitment; and Peak at Village Gym typically runs £79.50 a month against £67.50 on the longest commitment.
How much is gym membership if I pay for a year up front?
Club Platinum at David Lloyd typically costs £1,955.50 up front against £2,088 spread over twelve payments, saving around £132.50; Adult at Virgin Active costs the same either way, £1,440 a year; Anytime at Nuffield Health typically costs £935 up front against £984 spread over twelve payments, saving around £49; and Peak at Village Gym typically costs £742.50 up front against £810 spread over twelve payments, saving around £67.50. Why do gym prices differ so much between clubs?
Each club is priced on its own facilities, location and tier. David Lloyd, Virgin Active and Village Gym group their clubs into tiers, and a membership at a higher-tier club lets you use more of the chain's other clubs.
